Author’s Synopsis | In Pelesia, quests are abundant, and genuine heroes are few. After a series of bizarre events, Sola finds himself forced into a journey with the most renowned hero of the age, Gordon. Their quest, obtaining an egg of the giant Ruk, will surely project Sola into the limelight… if he lives. The harrowing voyage is fraught with monsters of myth and enemies from rival city-states; thrown into the fire feet first, Sola must learn to fight and survive next to a nearly-invincible Gordon.

FINAL THOUGHTS | This is a true epic fantasy. The length alone highlights as much. Readers’ ancient civics and history classes will come in handy, but fear not, patience is rewarded through Ashe’s world building.
I really have enjoyed her flawed hero not being the centerpiece. Instead our MC, Sola, is a victim of the hero’s brash decisions.

Reading on as he tries to determine what being a good man means to his adoptive family, his people, and himself gripped me. I think for that reason we can comp it fairly well to Amazon’s “The Boys” but not quite as dark and gritty. That said, if this sounds up your alley, I highly recommend checking out Tears of an Indifferent God!

I cannot decide what to do with Tears of an Indifferent God because I am hooked on the story, yet a bit overwhelmed with its length. So for the time being, it’s going to stay on the To Be Finished stack rather than the DNF stack.
