Author’s Synopsis | After suffering an emotional, nervous breakdown from witnessing his longtime girlfriend cheat on him. Darren Phillips heads off on a spiritual journey to lose himself and forget the pain. But on this journey, he runs into two unknown faces, convinced he is the man responsible for abducting a friend of theirs, leading to Darren’s imprisonment. The only way for Darren to survive is to convince them of his innocence or wind up six feet underground.

FINAL THOUGHTS | I wasn’t sold — at first . . . But when I finished Chapter 5, “Chained Down,” and realized where everything was heading, I struggled to contain myself. Abundis’ prose is very self-loathing and probably traumatic for readers who have dealt with mental health issues.

I know I personally had some flashbacks to my own breakdown.

That said, the writing is good, and the voice and tone are handled well for this very real world-esc character. I look forward to giving this one a complete review in the next few weeks, and I definitely haven’t been lost as a reader.

That chapter 5 cliffhanger will bring me back to Mistaken, I promise.
