Author’s Synopsis | In a world of combat and deception, the ones with power hold the keys. An enslaved girl forced to battle monsters for entertainment is ready to break free and destroy the family that captured her. Astrids plot to escape is thwarted when a deadly illness settles in. Her chance for redemption stolen, Astrid is given a choice: Possible marriage or to be dragon food. When she is ready to die, the monster asks for her help. Can she save the captive dragon – or will she fall for the man she hates?
FINAL THOUGHTS | This is such a good read. Like, I hate to admit it good. If you’re new to my world you wouldn’t know . . .
I read fantasy, but it isn’t always my favorite. I seldom, if ever, read romance. But DAGUMMIT! if this isn’t an engaging story, then I don’t know what is.
Slias does a great job early on to connect readers with the character of Astrid rather than the horrid world she lives in. We feel for the enslaved girl, and we like her plucky attitude to tell the prince to bug off. But when it’s her only option, I think we’re all right there with her to say, let’s check our pride and protect others from the fate of a dragon death.
I would love to do a full review of this one when it’s completed, so sit tight, but why not go check out Reigning Embers all on your own and support Slias directly!
