The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t With Her Mind
By Jackson Ford
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Have you read any of the “Frost Files” Novels?
What’d you think?
Remember Chuck? The Shazam actor’s big primetime debut, where he was a “Geek Squad”-esc employee, who accidentally downloaded all the world’s knowledge into his mind?
Teagan Frost is eclectic in many ways, from her love of sneakers and old-school hip-hop to her passion for cooking and exploring new restaurants. Unfortunately, those all come second to her day job, working for a covert, black ops outfit that utilizes her unique abilities to stop the world’s baddies.
Our inciting incident is the death of a businessman at the hands of telekinetic abilities and everyone, her friends included, thinks Teagan did it. Now she must outrun the shadow government while trying to prove her innocence in a blend of suspense, thrills, and genuine humor.
The characters are very well developed and the story is capable of enveloping readers. It’s not wholly an original concept, but it is done very well. There is a lot of Ford’s individuality and personality eking into the story, which makes it a great read.
I highly recommend following his socials, as he is incredibly humorous and witty, not to mention opinionated (in a good way), and if you do, you will notice these traits in the backbone of The Frost Files.
The story can be a bit verbose at times, and some of the writing may throw off American readers as Ford is originally from South Africa, so he uses some euphemisms and turns of phrase that will be new to readers, but overall enjoyable.
The story is a lot of fun, kind of like a theme park ride. Not that it’s short, but you can look at it and ultimately know what to expect. That’s not a bad thing and there are some twists and turns, but overall, it didn’t create any shock or awe that makes this a 5-star book, but it’s certainly worth the read as there are plenty of laughs and thrills along the way.
