I loved The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t with Her Mind, and if you enjoy quirky humor, sci-fi, and fantasy, you'll enjoy this one too!
Finders Keepers is a great novel but it's a HUGE departure from Mr. Mercedes. Regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed this one front to back!
I just can't like this book. It did too much with so little. The prose drones on, the twists are too far fetched and none of the characters seem genuine (in the worst possible way). I recommend staying away from this one.
The Guest List was a fan favorite in 2020 with a lot of high recommendations. However, I believe that's thanks to marketing and not the story itself. This whodunnit is a bit lackluster, and will leave many readers feeling shorted.
AJ Rivers second Emma Griffin novel does a complete 180 from the first, focusing on one storyline rather than a multitude.
But does this help the story in the end?
Readers who enjoy Stephen King characters that “shine” will enjoy Emerson’s journey as he copes with familial secrets, dark entities, and a world craving to take advantage of his abilities.
At face value the story concerns Louise and her ensnarement in the convoluted web of Adele and David Martin's crumbling marriage. Adele becomes Louise's best friend while David becomes Louise's lover.
Early on I got some vibes akin to Dean Koontz’s From The Corner of His Eye, which I nearly DNF’ed. Thankfully, Christopher turns out something much more digestible and suspenseful.
I see a bright future for Emma as a lone-wolf, loose-cannon agent in the next novel and beyond. However, I found it hard to like her due to poor decision making throughout the novel, but she gets her act together, which is the point, right?
That said, much like Emma, this first story is a little all over the place.
I feel required to give immediate praise for Gillian Flynn’s debut manuscript, Sharp Objects right off the bat. This masterfully cringe-tastic adult mystery whiddles away at any sense of reader’s common decency in the search for answers to not only the ‘whodunnit,’ but one family’s disquieting secrets.
