Author’s Synopsis | There are things worse than death, and Freaktown is full of them. Monsters become prey when a serial killer starts ripping the hearts out of vampires and collecting their spirits in a mad quest for godhood. Tensions worsen, as an ancient and evil puppet master emerges from the shadows. Can a city on the brink of war between vampires and sorcerers survive a supernatural serial killer AND the return of an ancient deity, or will it be consumed by blood and fire?

FINAL THOUGHTS | When I first read Freaktown, there was a vibe that I couldn’t quite place. Now a few days removed, I think it’s the original Wesley Snipes Blade Trilogy. With the entrance on a seemingly normal world of two party-goers that instantly turns on its head into a dark urban fantasy, I think that’s a pretty solid analogy.

There’s a fair bit of action and intrigue, and though I can’t say for certain that after five chapters I know where this story is headed (outside what I have gleaned from the synopsis) I get the sense that readers should keep their heads on a swivel because nothing may be as it seems.

Now, I’m not 100% sure I’ll be back to finish Freaktown any time soon. But I can’t bring myself to DNF it just yet. As Graeme has a good voice and a style of world building that embraces the dark and contemporary corners of life that I truly enjoyed.

In the meantime, readers looking to get more detailed reviews of Complete Novels and DNF’ed Vellas, should check out my Ko-Fi “Knowledge Tier.”
